    Pakistan Telegraph
    Friday 3rd September, 2010
    (ANI)

To strengthen bilateral military ties with Sri Lanka, Army Chief General VK Singh will embark on a three day visit to the island nation on Sunday.

During this trip, General Singh will have discussions with Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, and Prime Minister DM Jayaratne.

The Army Chief will also hold talks with all three-service chiefs of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces in Colombo.

The Army Chief will also visit training institutions, service headquarters and various operational units to give boost to defence cooperation between Indian and Sri Lanka.

India-Sri Lanka relations are multifaceted and have been built upon a legacy of historic links, common culture, shared commitment to democracy and a common orientation towards non-alignment in foreign policy.

Both countries share a common vision of peace and stability in the world, and enjoy an excellent relationship between governments, military and above all the people of the two nations.

India aims to maintain close, amiable and cooperative relations with Sri Lanka at both military and government levels. (ANI)
