According to the editorial, the rising waters have provided the militants with the perfect opportunity to regroup and revitalize their numbers and strategies.

Their game plan now seems to be to create as much destruction as they possibly can while being left relatively unhampered by military action.

Whilst one understands that all concerned authorities must do all they can to help those affected by this unprecedented natural disaster, they must not lose sight of the prize, which is a terror-free Pakistan, says the editorial.

The past week has shown that the militants are accelerating their activities to cause a maximum amount of destruction in the wake of the worst floods in Pakistan's history.

The floods have affected some 21 million people, but Pakistan's entire population stands at approximately 180 million. For the sake of about 10 percent of the country, sympathy for their plight notwithstanding, those at the top must not loosen their grip on the campaign against militancy.
