Since the air ambulance was able to land on a 800m grass before, why can't the 500m concrete runway be lengthened with another 300m grass strip?
Where did the air ambulances land while the new airstrip was under construction? Why is the new runway only 500 metres long and not 550 as laid down in the contract notice?
Up till the contract with Gama and the advent of the King Air planes the fixed wing ambulance flights were provided by Islander aircraft that sould operate off 500m grass strips. The King Airs need 740 m4tres tarmac and can not operate off grass. Most of the recent medivacs have been by helicopter anyway so the situation hasn't changed significantly.
This is a non story. Helicopters will be used, end of...what a waste of space- get a grip, Scotsman.
NB! Don't take ill on Colonsay!!!!!
Surely any blame should be laid at the door of the folk who awarded the contract in the first place. I remember watching the planes land on the sand at Barra, I think they were Islanders. I reckoned they were totally magic.
