Delhi Metro's Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar link, which connects the city's north with its satellite town of Gurgaon in Haryana, was a huge hit among the public Friday with over 32,000 footfalls within a few hours of its opening.

According to a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson, about 32,000 people used the metro services till 8 p.m.

Of these, he said, the Green Park Metro station witnessed the presence of 2,700 passengers, while the AIIMS station saw 2,200 footfalls.

Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy opened the 12.53 km-long stretch for public in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at Udyog Bhawan metro station.

Metro services between Jahangirpuri and Central Secretariat and Qutub Minar-HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon have been operational for quite some time now.

The latest line completes the stretch from Jahangirpuri in the north to Gurgaon, a distance of 45 km.

The entire stretch will have 25 km of underground and 20 km of elevated sections.

The entire corridor has 34 stations -- 20 of them underground and 14 elevated.
