Blast derails Assam goods train, driver hurt
    Pakistan Telegraph
    Wednesday 8th September, 2010
    (IANS)

Tribal separatists Wednesday blew up a goods train in Assam's Udalguri district, injuring the driver critically, officials said.

A police spokesman said the explosion took place around 11 p.m. near Daifam in Udalguri, about 90 km north of Assam's main city of Guwahati.

'At least 10 wagons were derailed and the driver was seriously injured in the impact of the blast,' railway spokesperson S. Hajong told IANS.

The train was on its way from Rangiya on the outskirts of Guwahati to the eastern Assam district of Lakhimpur.

'Preliminary reports suggest it was a powerful remote controlled explosion,' a senior police official said.

Police suspect the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) to be behind the blast.

'The area is a known stronghold of the NDFB and the modus operandi also points to the group,' the police official said.

Security forces have launched a hunt in the area to nab the bombers.
