    Pakistan Telegraph
    Thursday 9th September, 2010
    (IANS)

A Gujarat court sentenced a policeman to life imprisonment for burning alive a man who admonished the cop for extorting money from a bootlegger.

Additional sessions judge D.T. Soni sentenced constable Haribhai Patel to life imprisonment and also ordered him to pay Rs.15,000 to the wife of the victim.

The court also directed the public prosecutor B.S. Patel to forward a copy of the judgement which carries strictures against the police to the Ahmedabad police commissioner.

Hasmukh Parmar, 35, had asked the policeman not to extort money from the bootlegger. The enraged policeman slapped Parmar and then returned with a can of kerosene and set the victim on fire.
