Greens plan Snowy Hydro sell-off consent bill

The New South Wales Greens say they will try to introduce legislation when Parliament resumes next Tuesday to make sure the Snowy Hydro cannot be sold without the consent of both houses of Parliament.

The State Government had previously said it did not require the approval of Parliament to sell its 58 per cent share.

Greens Upper House MP Sylvia Hale says she wants to make sure the deeply unpopular idea cannot be rushed through Parliament ever again.

"One of the significant factors about this entire episode has been secrecy of Government of all levels to reveal why they wanted to sell it or to defend their decision in any way that would make them publicly accountable," she said.

"The Greens believe that the bill, which will require the consent of both houses of Parliament, will ensure that such a disgraceful episode will not be repeated."
