Joey Daniels is from Creston, B.C., and grew up in the shadows of a family band, with The Pennock Family hosting their own radio show and working the local circuit. Joey’s brother Jason Pennock came through the same tutoring, and he is featured here co-writing nine of the songs with his sister on this, her debut album.
That’s the good news… the not-so-good, comes with the fact that listening to Joey Daniels here is like going to the "Shania Twain School Of Song & Voice". Purposefully or not Joey Daniels sounds too much like Shania Twain…and we only needed the one!! The soundalike curse is especially noticeable on songs like Kiss-N-Tell, Hands On You, Crazier Than Usual and the title track Take Me Off The Market.... and there are others.
The album’s lead single, Swingin’ Door, has attracted some attention. The best work here shows up on the closing three selections – the country hurt tune, If You Love Me, the powerful message song, Believe, and the pure-country winner Without You, a tune which actually salvages the album.
Now working out of Nashville (via Florida), Joey Daniels is attracting attention on the U.S. country marketplace with this debut album; and Canadian country music would be well served with another name player…but the “Shania soundalike” may be too big of a hurdle to overcome this time around.
